Welcome to Consciously Optimistic! A lifestyle blog that caters to the holistic approach towards a more (or less) balanced way of life! My name is Katy Yates, a wife and perpetually crazed mother of two. Let's be clear, I am so not a guru on balance, k? Easily overwhelmed. Control freak. Perfectionist. Time management flunky. You name it. Both good, and bad, traits dependent upon how they are perceived or applied.
So, I am most definitely not an expert on living life to the fullest. I simply am a person with a newfound passion for health and wellness, life and beauty. As we all are, I am learning as I grow. In May of 2017, I had a life altering experience that rocked both my family and me to the core. I entered a treatment facility for alcoholism. In the year or so of my active addiction, I jeopardized a lot of things, hurt a lot of people, resided in the darkest of places. But this blog is about the life we build in recovery. I am not the poster child for recovery. I am a new and eager student who wants to share my experience with those that may find hope in it. I don't want to feel embarrassment, shame and disappointment anymore. I want to feel hope, honesty, joy. I am eternally consciously optimistic. |
"Wellness is not a 'medical fix' but a way of living - a lifestyle sensitive and responsive to all the dimensions of body, mind and spirit, an approach to life we each design to achieve our highest potential for well-being now and forever."

Body
"Yet this is health: to have a body functioning so perfectly that when its few simple needs are met it never calls attention to it's own existence."
-Bertha Stuart Dymant |
Mind
"To enjoy good health, to bring true happiness to one's family, to bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control one's own mind. If a man can control his own mind, he can find the way to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to him."

Spirit
"If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if a blade of grass springing up in the fields has power to move you, if the simple things of nature have a message that you understand, rejoice, for your soul is alive."
